Barebones Living Railroad Lantern
On dark nights, at picnics, in a campground and at home the Barebones Living Railroad Lantern is my new companion. I love the weight of it in my hand, the steady light that surges from its core and the way I feel like I just was transported through time when I use it.
Aesthetically there is no doubt this lantern is the best on the market. The seeded glass core, copper accents, thoughtful color choice and Union Pacific design was enough to win me over. So I was surprised when this lantern actually performed better than any lantern we’ve ever owned.
Most lanterns shine light either up or down; up to illuminate spaces, down so you can see where you are going. This lantern shines light uniformly up, down and side to side. The overall design and the seeded glass core work together to create the perfect ambiance. The dimming key design is fun to use and responds to even the slightest change making it easy to find your perfect light setting. (We appreciated this function most when it absolutely poured on our tent for a full 24 hours.)
The overall weight feels good in your hand, in your gear and on your table. At under 2 lbs. it won’t weigh down your gear load and it’s easy to carry if you need to walk with it for longer distances. It also won’t get blown over on the campground table.
Although this lantern might look like an antique it certainly isn’t from a technological standpoint. The rechargeable battery lasts 100+ hours on low and 3.5 hours on high. The USB charger can be used at home, in the car or with a power bank.
Another bonus to the design is the outer metal cage which makes this thing tough as nails. The cage comes in handy during gear transportation and is durable in case it gets dropped. If somehow you do manage to break the glass core you can order a replacement.
