Belfair State Park - Washington

Belfair State Park is a great example of why we love the Hood Canal so much.

Located right outside of Belfair, Washington this park is a treasure.  We instantly relaxed when we saw our generously wooded campsite for the weekend.

Every expectation we had for this campground was met and then some.  Where do we start? The shoreline is so vast there is a spot for everyone to enjoy.  The sun rises and sets in a perfect line above the canal to enjoy both.  Fresh grilled oysters!!! Our minds were blown.

Life at this campground revolves around the tide.  When the tide is in, the park has waterfront views and plenty of shoreline to sit and enjoy.  When the tide is out, a vast tidal flat is revealed and you guessed it hundreds of thousands of oysters, clams and mussels. (license information below.)

The park is also great for kite-flying and windsurfing.  We saw many Anglers and the website notes that there is a choice of fresh or saltwater fishing.  It’s also easy to kayak which we noticed some campers using to harvest crabs.

Our Take:  Our site was private and welcoming but sites on the East side are less private.  Kids are pretty excited in this campground and the noise level was high, but honestly it seemed to fit right into the ambiance and set a jovial mood.  Bathrooms were clean but noisy for those with campsites nearby.

  • Fire Ring: Yes, cleaned regularly. Wood for sale onsite!
