Tiny House on Newman Lake

I’ve been dreaming of a tiny house for a very long time. For me a tiny house represents freedom. Freedom from expenses, too much stuff and staying in one place too long.

Before jumping in to major life decisions we like to test the waters, so we booked a tiny house on the shore of Newman Lake, Washington for three nights on Airbnb.

From the moment I laid eyes on this tiny dwelling I was sold! We opened the front door and were warmed by a fireplace which made everything glow. A tiny table set with fresh flowers inspired romantic dinners. Luxurious pillows on the sofa invited us to kick off our shoes. Mike immediately tore into the box of maple leaf cookies provided by our hosts.

After settling in we climbed a ladder to our bedroom loft. We discovered that Mike was a little too tall to sleep on the right side without hitting his head but luxe bedding and an extremely comfortable mattress quickly lulled us to sleep.

Waking up the morning was just as magical, as we slept a light dusting of snow fell around us. When we opened our eyes a lakeside winter wonderland awaited. We arrived by night so we weren’t sure what daylight would bring. Our view was so amazing we threw on our boots and rushed outside in our pajamas. We were like kids discovering all the amenities our hosts provided. A fire pit, firewood, a canoe and a private dock. Too good to be true!

Coming back inside to warm up we made to fresh cups of coffee. Everything we could need was contained in the kitchen which had two burners and a large refrigerator. Our host had provided the perfect number of dishes, utensils and cookware.

For the next two days we enjoyed cooking dinner, sunset campfires, watching the snow fall and late night movies. It’s true, not everything was perfect. When we were in a rush to checkout and bumping into each other tempers were tested. Also the bathroom was tight and the compostable toilet was a bit of an adventure. All in all in every home you make compromises. What are we willing to compromise for the dream of tiny house living? I guess we will have to see.

Mike’s not completely convinced yet, which I understand, but that’s what dreams are for aren’t they? They just might come true.
