Books to Read Around the Campfire

It’s that time in the night; you’re all settled into your campsite, the fire is crackling, stars appear in the night sky.  Time for a campfire story!

We love to share a campfire story before we settle into our tent for the night.  Here are a few of our favorite books to bring along:

Campfire Stories: Tales from America’s National Parks - Dave Kyu and Ilyssa Kyu

Campfire Stories is a compilation of stories from each of the National Parks; Acadia, Great Smoky Mountains, Rocky Mountain, Zion, Yosemite and Yellowstone.  The editors gathered the most intriguing and beautifully written stories about each park for the specific purpose of reading aloud around a campfire.  It even includes storytelling tips!

Turn Around Time: A Walking Poem for the Pacific Northwest - David Guterson

David Guterson has been a long time favorite author.  We’ve enjoyed Snow Falling on Cedars and East of the Mountains.  This book is a departure from storytelling into poetry.  It reads like a love letter to the Pacific Northwest and just happens to be an ideal size for a backpack.

Norse Mythology - Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman is the master of connecting humans with the Gods and Norse Mythology is no exception.  Age old Norse Myths become approachable and somewhat comical in Gaiman’s voice.  You can’t help but laugh out loud when Loki fools everyone for the 100th time.

Enjoy!
